1. I am "adopted" mom to my 19 year-old nephew, Andrew.

2. I am a best-selling author, writing Amish romance novels, journals and cookbooks.

3. I am an advocate for home-schooling and Christian schools.

4. I travel alot several times a year, on book tours.

5. I want to move to the coast and sip tea on my balcony.

6. I am former Old Order Amish. I had to return there for a week because we had a terrible shooting- I hated it. It was devastating.

7. I have my own private-label line of Amish jams/sorghum. I have tapped for sorghum before when I lived in PA.

8. I love parties- being a local celebrity author, I attend and sponser many galas, silent auctions and fundraisers.

9. I donate 10% to the church and give 10% tithe as well.

10. I merchandise in stores part-time- 2 to 2 1/2 days a week- depends on the season.

11. I am a former Registered Nurse. I rode horseback when I was Amish, to visit ill members.

12. My autobiography comes out in the spring. I will be touring the country for 2 months with photos from my former Amish hometown.

13. I can't type well- I make typos. MY 1st book wasn't edited and has just went out of print! I'm sooo glad- Lori at Fidlar Doubleday is proofing my next 2 books.

14. I will be getting 2 low-paying jobs next month and will start a "new" life in Lexington for 6 months, to see if I can live on low-paying wages. I will be keeping a daily journal which I will have Doubelday print in the late summer/ early fall.

15. I have a twin sister who lives near the coast in Texas and will never leave there. I had labor pains when she had her first child.

16. I am Seventh-day Adventist now.

17. I love to dress up-sometimes; however, when I'm touring its kind of tiring to keep dressing up every day. I love to dress up for parties.

18. I don't like for my picture to be taken- it still feels weird, getting used to the cameras.

19. I love to canoe.

20. My big dream is to do a book tour in England and Monacco- I have many penpals in both areas.

21. I am trying to save money; however, I like to spend it too much.

22. I once cut my hair, got a perm and entered a beauty pageant( that's how the publisher got the nice picture of me on the back of my cookbook.)

23. Like most authors, I have 2 names. My other name is Teresa Phillips.

24. I will be touring West Virginia again in April.

25. I love chocolate.

26. I love fresh flowers but haven't gotten them for several months...maybe I need my SO to read my list???

27. I love getting letters- I read all of my fanmail. I once got too many to read, thus I was reading mail for 2 months solid. It was in the middle of a tour, so I had to take the 2 overflowing mail bags with me. I get unusual stuff sometimes.

28. I've had a stalker( actually he still exists, so I don't travel without a bodyguard when I tour.)

29. I'll have my own food show in 2008.

30. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University.

31. I went back to college, majoring in Fashion & Merchandising.

Very interesting! Good luck to you Smile

  2. Broken Arrow Says:

#2 Wow, Amish romance novels? I've never heard of that one before. What's that... like?

#28 That's really wild! Was he ever arrested for it? If you're ever in my part of town, let me know, and I'll be happy to provide some company for ya. Wink

#29 Woah! What is up with that one? Food show... where? TV or radio? How do we get access to it?

Another question, but you don't have to answer this if you're not comfortable with it. What made you decide that the Amish lifestyle wasn't for you?

  3. sicilyyoder Says:

Hey there. No, he has never been arrested yet. My bodyguard, John, owner of probodyguards.com is watching him. The guy is crazy- thinks he's an Amish traveling minister. It will air on Canadian TV. Its still in the works. Where so you live- I remember seeing it, but somehow, I can't see your profile again. I was excommunicated for being too liberal!!!!

  4. Ima saver Says:

It sounds like you have a very interesting life.

  5. sicilyyoder Says:

Thank you, Julie. I think your life sounds neat too- playing Bridge. I've never played cards; however, I have always wanted to do so. My sisters play Poker all the time.

  6. Broken Arrow Says:

I'm in Raleigh, North Carolina. It usually doesn't work well for a "loose cannon" to barge in on someone else's protective detail. Not only is it rude and insulting, but it's at best a headache and at worst a disaster waiting to happen.

On the other hand, I do understand this so I do my best not to get in the way and tag along more as a "personal friend". Better yet, I try not to get involved at all. Big Grin But again, if you're in the area, I don't mind being your guide and acquaintance. Just let me know if you ever need it. Wink

Oh, and if I was in your shoes, I'd most definitely be excommunicated for being too liberal as well. Smile

  7. sicilyyoder Says:

Cool- I will be touring North Carolina next summer!!! Maybe you can show me around the city.

  8. Amber Says:

I think I can do number 5 myself. Very interesting I thought differently of Amish women...nice and informative post

  9. Broken Arrow Says:

Sicily, I hope you see this response in time, but depending on your comfort level, you may want to delete or change some of your details. There are only so many women in this world that is going to fit your details here, and I believe the blogs are scanned by search engines. What that means is that anyone (including your stalker friend) may be able to find out at least where this blog is. That wouldn't be a good thing!

Just thought you might want to know!

  10. sicilyyoder Says:

Ok- I don't think like you bodyguards do- thats why I need you guys:>) What should I delete? let me know and I'll change things. Thanks for keeping me safe!
    Thanks!

  11. Broken Arrow Says:

Well... if I was in your shoes... I would change or delete pretty much anything that's unique or is very distinctive. Like being Amish or being a Canadian celebrity chef for example. Unfortunately, those are also details that makes your list so interesting.

Of course, what changes you make (if any) is entirely up to you. You really wouldn't want my advice on the specifics, because... I tend to err on the paranoid side, and pretty soon, everything would be censored. Big Grin In fact, I'd go so far as to suggest to delete some of the comments in here that may give you away... including all of mine. Again, it's all entirely up to you and what your comfort level is.

But yeah, if I had a stalker after me, I wouldn't be too comfortable knowing that they can just click a link and have up-to-the-minute details of my personal life.

  12. jodi Says:

Good points, BA. I worry about giving away too much at times and I don't even have a stalker. But sicily, your life sounds SO interesting. I plan to look up some of your cookbooks as cooking simply and from scratch is becoming a favorite pasttime of mine. Thank you for sharing.

  13. Dido Says:

Sounds like a fascinating life. It must be hard to be at once so connected to Amish life and yet shunned. Twenty years ago, I had a student assistant working for me who was also shunned Amish. She had decided she wanted to go to college and that wasn't allowed by her order, and she took her four children and left. It takes a very brave person to do that.

I live in Eastern PA and heard a lot bout the West Nickel Mines shooting. What a tragedy.

  14. sicilyyoder Says:

Thanks, guys! I am going to try to delete some things today. I'm still learning on the site, so it may take awhile. Have a GREAT day!

  15. frugaltexan75 Says:

    Siicily,

I bet I have probably read some of the books you wrote. I have always been fascinated with the Amish lifestyle, and have read many fictional accounts as well as non fiction books.

The Amish school shooting was just a terrible thing. But I think it really showed the world what the Amish people are made of - how strong they are, their community, their ability to not only forgive a horrendous wrong, but to reach out to the the family of their children's murderer.

Something we have in common - I am also a Seventh-day Adventist. I have to say that I was really surprised to see someone else of our faith online. Although, I'm probably what would be considered a pretty liberal SDA - which is still pretty conservative in the world view. Smile
Is your sister and SDA as well?

  16. sicilyyoder Says:

No, my sister isn't an Adventist. Actually, on eof them ( my baby sis), is a wicka priestess( they do beleive in Jesus though), while my twin is Baptist. Your right about the world view- its pretty liberal. I have to say that I am getting more liberal. I still love the church, but mine is REAL conservative and I'm not like that, being former Amish and all. I like to dress up when I perform because folks come to be entertained. I do tryo to follow the health message as much as I can though it is hard when traveling.
