Out and About Today

January 30th, 2009 at 09:12 pm

I finally got out of my driveway today, and I still thought the street's roads were bad, all the humped- up ice made a narrow street. I went to the grocery and got a couple things for Sabbath. I visited mom and my stepdad, who has Fridays off. I played with my cat. I sure wish he was at my house, but he is attached to much to mom and dad, and I travel too much. We are supposed to get more snow on Monday, but I hope it isn't alot, as I am spending a week in Indiana.

Ice Storm...Again

January 28th, 2009 at 04:32 pm

I remember the ice storm of 2002. I was breakfast hostess at a Hampton Inn and waited tables, too, at a Ruby Tuesday, in Lexington, Kentucky. It was 3:30 Am, and I was broke, had a Ford Windstar Minivan, that I had bought with cash when I was a foster mom, and needed gas,as it was a 35-minute drive, on a normal, early morning to work. I stopped by a Shell station, and prepaid with my 32 cents- I will never forget it, as we were due to get paid, at one of the jobs that day, so I knew I would have money on the way back home. The cashier took out a twenty-dollar bill from her purse, and handed it to me. I thought that was so kind, and I did pay her back, plus gave her a signed copy of my cookbook, years later.
This week's ice storm brought those memories back. I have been home since yesterday, and had no internet, cable or digital phone. After working, and traveling 100-hour weeks, I am glad to have gotten caught up on sleep. I baked homemade cookies and am baking bread tomorrow, so I'm enjoying time off. Its neat how you can throw stuff together with stuff from the cupboard.
Some of the dark chocolate stuck to the foil, that I covered them with, but that's OK, as there is enough sugar in the Heath Bar Chips. I got the Heath Bar Chips and Hershey Dark Chocolate Chips on sale, after Christmas at a Kroger for only .59 a bag. I love sales, and each store has different specials.

Back from my Trip

January 12th, 2009 at 11:43 pm

I just got back from my trip to Batesville, Indiana. I had a great time. They serve cucumber water- and it is so refreshing. I ate alot of fresh fruit, lounged in the Bombay Room and Tuscany Breakfast Area, where they still have the racks on the ceiling, to dry their own herbs, as well as drank herbal tea, and ate chocolate-covered strawberries in the two-person jacuzzi.

It was so nice, as after I returned from dinner, they had all the candles in the room, and around the stone-filled glass vases lit for me. They kept my refrigerator full of juices, bottled water, and, of course, my fav. drink, Sprite. I had dinner at Ertel's Winery, and drove back in the snow.

Going to The Inn on Sunday

January 7th, 2009 at 02:04 pm

I made another appointment for Sunday, to go to The Stonebridge Inn. I hope I won't have trouble again, with my rental car. I love the Mazda 3, and how it drives. We got some soft snow today. I am fixing to leave for Indiana- another part of Indiana.

Things Didn't go as Planned

January 4th, 2009 at 08:29 am

OK- I was very excited about doing a travel review of Batesville, Indiana. I had already packed everything in the car, and somehow, between going to mom's and the gas station, I accidently rolled down the back window. The problem was, that it wouldn't roll up. I didn't want to go all the way to Batesville and not be able to secure my car at night, as it is a brand new PT Cruiser, and it belongs to Enterprise, not me ( I travel so much, I rent a car for my business 24/7- have already put 9,000 miles on the PT Cruiser, and haven't had it that long.) I had to go to another branch and wait for another car, so they were able to switch me out into a Mazda 3- which I actually like better, but that was two hours after I was supposed to check in, so needless to say, I didn't make it to Indiana. However, I did call the Inn and Spa to let them know I would have to reschedule.
That is one reason I love Enterprise so much- if there is anything wrong with the cars, and I am even 10 hours from home, they will switch me out into another new car. I would kill any car, the way I travel, with my business. I am in Illinois, Indiana, Northern Kentucky, and Southern Ohio next week. However, I don't travel as much as some contractors. A guy was at the branch yesterday, that was going to 6 states.
I've included sme pictures of Eastern Kentucky University's hockey team. I went to watch them play late on night, in Louisville. Officer Jonathan Riveria escorted me- he was so nice.

Going to an Inn

I am going to visit Stonebridge Inn, in Batesville, Indiana tomorrow. I am getting a deep tissue massage, too. I will have photos, and details when I get back.
